The Bombay High Court made a decision. They are giving Abu Salem Ansari some time to think. He has to decide if he wants to take the request he made for emergency parole. Abu Salem Ansari asked for this parole because his brother died. The court talked about this on 4 February 2026. A lot of people are interested in Abu Salem Ansaris case because he is a known criminal and he has been in jail, for a very long time. Abu Salem Ansari has a lot of time to think about what he wants to do with his parole request.
Abu Salem is in jail for a long time because he did some very bad things. Now he wants to go to some events because his brother died.
He asked the court if he can go out of jail for a while. This is called emergency parole.
The court usually says yes to emergency parole when someone is very sick or when a family member dies.

So the court was having a hearing. Salems lawyer told the judge that Salem was thinking about changing his mind. The court, in Bombay said okay they will give Salem some time to think about it and make up his mind. The court said they would talk about it again later and that nobody should force Salem to make a decision without him understanding what is going on.
The people who are against Salem getting out of jail do not want him to be paroled. They are looking at Salems past and all the bad things he has done. They are also worried about how they will keep everyone safe if Salem is let out even if it’s just for a little while. The state says that someone, like Salem should be watched closely if they are going to let him out because in the past it has taken a lot of work to keep him safe when he has been moved from one place to another.
The High Court did not say anything about the bad points of the plea right now. The Judges made it clear that this order is about following the right steps and it gives the petitioner enough time to think carefully about what he wants to do with his application. The court also said that they have to think about helping people in a way but they also have to make sure everyone is safe and that the law is respected. The High Court wants to make sure that humanitarian considerations and public safety and legal safeguards are balanced when they make a decision, about the petitioners application.
Abu Salem was sent back, to India from Portugal in 2005. Has been kept in very secure prisons since then. For years the courts and other officials have carefully looked at his requests to be let out of prison for a short time. The courts have always said that being let out of prison is not something Abu Salem is automatically allowed to have but rather it is something that can be given to him if the facts of his case and his behavior are good and if it is safe to let him out.
Law experts say that the way the High Court is handling this is very careful especially when it comes to cases with people who have been found guilty of big crimes. What happens in the end will depend on if Salem wants to go with the plea and how the people, in charge react if Salem asks again.
