MUMBAI, September 5, 2026: Passengers travelling on the Titwala–Kasara section of Mumbai’s Central Railway network are facing changes to suburban train services as the railway authorities undertake platform extension work at Titwala. The latest phase of the work involves special traffic and power blocks over three consecutive nights — September 4-5, September 5-6 and September 6-7 — between midnight and 5 am.
The work is being carried out to extend Titwala railway station platforms so they can accommodate 15-car suburban local trains. The infrastructure upgrade is part of a larger 15-day programme of nightly traffic and power blocks being implemented by Central Railway between late August and September 11-12.
Titwala–Kasara Services Affected
During the current three-night block, suburban services will not operate between Titwala and Kasara during the affected hours. Several trains have been cancelled, while others will be short-terminated or short-originated to keep the remaining network operational.
Central Railway has also announced changes to the way certain services operate. Titwala-bound suburban trains will be extended to Asangaon, while services that normally originate at Titwala will instead originate from Asangaon during the broader work period. This arrangement is intended to maintain connectivity while allowing engineering teams to safely carry out work around the Titwala section.
Among the services affected are late-night trains from Mumbai toward Titwala and Kasara. The CSMT–Titwala locals departing at 10 pm and 10.50 pm, as well as selected CSMT–Kasara services, have been listed among the cancelled services during the relevant phases. Some early-morning services are also being adjusted because of the overnight block.

Commuters Face Delays and Crowding
The disruption has already caused inconvenience for commuters using the Kalyan–Kasara corridor. Reports from the route indicate that cancellations and operational changes have contributed to delays and increased crowding, particularly when passengers have had to rely on alternative services. Some trains have reportedly been running 40 to 50 minutes late during periods of disruption.
The impact is particularly significant for students, office workers and residents of the northern Mumbai suburban belt who depend heavily on local trains for daily travel. For many passengers, even short overnight changes can affect early-morning connections and onward journeys toward Mumbai.
Why the Platform Work Matters
The platform extension is aimed at preparing Titwala for 15-coach local train operations. Longer rakes can potentially increase passenger-carrying capacity on one of the busy suburban corridors serving areas beyond Kalyan. The work therefore represents a longer-term infrastructure upgrade, although commuters have to manage temporary disruption while construction is underway.
Central Railway has advised passengers to check updated train schedules before travelling, particularly those planning late-night or early-morning journeys. Travellers should also pay attention to station announcements and display boards because individual services may be cancelled, curtailed, regulated or shifted during the different phases of the work.
The three-night phase beginning September 4 is only one part of the wider Titwala infrastructure programme. Further nightly blocks are scheduled through September 11-12, meaning passengers on the Titwala–Kasara route should expect additional operational changes in the coming days.
For now, commuters are being urged to plan journeys carefully and allow extra travel time. Once completed, the platform extension is expected to support more efficient handling of longer suburban rakes and strengthen capacity on the Central Railway network.
