Pune | June 26, 2026: The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal has emerged as one of Maharashtra’s most closely watched criminal cases, with police claiming they have uncovered evidence pointing to a pre-planned conspiracy involving his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary. As fresh details continue to surface, the Maharashtra government has directed that the matter be heard in a fast-track court to ensure a speedy trial.
According to investigators, 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal travelled to Lohagad Fort near Lonavala with Siya Goyal on June 18 for what appeared to be a routine trekking trip. Hours later, he was found dead after falling into a deep gorge. Initially treated as an accidental death, the case took a dramatic turn after Ketan’s family questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident and urged police to investigate the possibility of foul play.
Pune Rural Police subsequently launched an extensive investigation involving forensic experts, cyber specialists, and crime branch officers. Officials now allege that the evidence collected during the probe indicates the death was a planned murder rather than an accident.
Police claim that mobile phone records, chat histories, location data, and witness statements show frequent communication between Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary before the trek. Investigators allege the two met several times in Pune and discussed plans to eliminate Ketan before carrying out the alleged conspiracy at Lohagad Fort.
During interrogation, officials said both accused have provided differing versions of events, with each allegedly attempting to shift responsibility onto the other. However, investigators maintain that the digital evidence suggests both were actively involved in planning the crime. Police also allege that Chetan Chaudhary repeatedly encouraged Siya Goyal to proceed with the murder after she initially expressed hesitation.
Investigators believe the alleged motive was rooted in the relationship between the two accused. Police suspect Siya no longer wished to continue with her engagement to Ketan and had developed a close relationship with Chetan. Authorities are continuing to examine financial records, personal communications, and other evidence to establish the complete motive behind the alleged conspiracy.
The case has generated widespread public attention across Maharashtra, prompting the state government to intervene. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met members of Ketan Agarwal’s family and directed officials to ensure that the investigation is completed without delay. The government has also appointed senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as the special public prosecutor to represent the prosecution during trial.
In a development that attracted national attention, Siya Goyal’s parents publicly stated that if their daughter is found guilty by the court, she should receive the strictest punishment permitted under the law. Their statement has been widely discussed as the investigation continues.
Police officials have clarified that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional forensic analysis, electronic evidence, and witness testimonies will form a key part of the chargesheet. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage, call records, and digital devices seized during the investigation to strengthen the prosecution’s case.
While police have presented their findings before the court, the accused continue to be entitled to due process, and the allegations against them will ultimately be tested during trial. Officials have appealed to the public to avoid speculation and allow the judicial process to determine the facts. The fast-track proceedings are expected to begin after the filing of the final chargesheet and completion of all remaining investigative formalities.
