Kolkata, July 2: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has alleged that eggs and vegetables were hurled outside the venue where she was meeting party workers in Krishnanagar, West Bengal. Sharing a video of the incident on social media, Moitra accused alleged BJP supporters of attempting to disrupt the gathering and intimidate party workers.
According to Moitra, the incident occurred outside her office while she was holding a meeting with local TMC workers. In a post accompanying the video, she claimed that a group she described as “BJP goons” threw eggs and vegetables at the premises. She alleged that the act was a deliberate attempt to create fear and disturb the meeting.
The video shared by the TMC MP shows eggs and vegetables scattered outside the office entrance, while party workers and supporters gather around the site. The footage quickly circulated on social media, triggering political reactions from both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Moitra strongly condemned the incident, saying political disagreements should never translate into physical intimidation. She argued that democratic politics must be based on debate rather than disruptive tactics. The Krishnanagar MP also indicated that legal action would be pursued against those responsible for the incident.
The alleged attack comes just weeks after Moitra had publicly warned that she would file an FIR if protesters attempted to throw eggs or tomatoes at her during public appearances. At the time, she said such acts crossed the line between political protest and harassment, asserting that democratic opposition should remain peaceful and lawful.
