Dedicating the event, Amit Shah set forth India’s 5,000-year-old maritime history and the vision of the government to make the “Gateway of India” the “Gateway of the World.” He stressed that India’s long coastline, robust shipbuilding hub, and expanding port facilities have the potential to propel the country to become a blue-economy power. The ocean is not only a trade route but a symbol of India’s opportunity and strength,” said Shah, unveiling two deep-sea fishing vessels constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. in Mumbai. These vessels will enable Indian fishermen to go out into deeper waters to exploit tuna and other high-value catches, greatly enhancing coastal livelihoods.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, attracts more than 100,000 delegates, 500 international exhibitors, and diplomats from over 70 nations. Topics of discussion include sustainable shipping, blue economy growth, port-led industrialization, and maritime digitalization. Significant investments of over ₹10 trillion are likely to be made public during the week, across the sectors of port modernization, inland waterways, shipbuilding, and green marine technologies.
