MUMBAI, August 26 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the licences of four food businesses after checks found problems with food safety and cleanliness. One of the places involved is Ayub’s a known restaurant in Mumbai’s Fort area that serves kebabs, rolls and other non-vegetarian meals.

This latest move is part of an effort by Maharashtra officials to make sure restaurants, hotels and other food businesses follow food safety rules. The inspections have looked at kitchen cleanliness how food is stored how pests are controlled how temperatures are managed and other steps that help keep customers from getting sick from food.

Ayub’s Licence Suspended

According to reports FDA inspectors visited Ayub’s on August 22. Then stopped its food business licence from August 23. This was done under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Inspectors found issues with cleanliness. They saw houseflies, water that did not move and open or not properly kept drains. They also said there was not protection against pests at the place.

Storage of food was another problem. Things that go bad quickly like eggs were kept at room temperature instead of in the right temperature-controlled areas. This can cause bacteria to grow and make food unsafe in Mumbai’s hot and wet weather.

Officials also said that raw food and cooked food were not kept separate. Keeping them apart is a rule for food safety because if they touch each other it can cause bad bacteria to spread.

Three Other Places Also Had Problems

The FDA’s actions did not affect Mumbai. According to reports three other places also had their licences taken away.

These places are Burhampur Jalebi Center and Step In Restaurant in Nagpur and Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha in Kurla. They were found to have problems that needed action from the regulators.

The suspensions were part of a check across Maharashtra. One day of checking on August 24 officials looked at 37 hotels, restaurants and roadside eateries. They gave 31 places warnings to improve and took away the licences of four food businesses.

The difference between a warning and a licence suspension is important. Warnings ask businesses to fix their problems. A suspension means the authorities believe the businesses are not meeting the rules.

Why This Matters

Violations of food safety rules can make people sick. Bad cleaning, not pest control, wrong storage temperatures and mixing raw and cooked food can all lead to harmful germs growing in food.

For places that serve meat, dairy, eggs and other things that go bad quickly keeping the cold chain and clean conditions is very important.

The action against Ayub’s is likely to get a lot of attention because it’s a well-known restaurant in Mumbai. However the FDA’s bigger effort shows that the crackdown is not just for names. Places and food businesses across Maharashtra are also being checked.

Maharashtra Is Checking More

The latest suspensions are part of a food safety campaign led by the Maharashtra FDA. The department has been. Visiting places all over the state to find businesses that do not follow the rules.

For restaurant owners the message is clear: just having food is not enough. They need to make sure they have cleaning, storage, pest control, food handling, temperature control and tracking of food.

For people who eat out the crackdown could help them understand how important it is to have food and encourage places to keep better safety rules.

The FDA’s action against four restaurants is more than a punishment. It shows how much focus is on food safety and health, in Maharashtra. It also tells restaurants that bad hygiene can mean losing their licence to operate.
