Mumbai, June 8 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has given the light to 65 big infrastructure projects under the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation, which is also known as MahaRail. This is a step towards making Maharashtra completely free of railway level crossings. This will make the roads a lot safer reduce traffic jams and make it easier for people to travel by road and rail across Maharashtra.
The main focus of these projects is to build Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges at railway crossings over the state. Government officials say that these projects will get rid of the level crossings that often cause traffic jams and accidents. This will make it easier for people to travel and for goods to be moved around.
MahaRail is a project between the Government of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Railways. Its main goal is to make Maharashtra free of railway level crossings. MahaRail has already built bridges in different parts of the state and is working hard to finish the rest of the projects.
There are hundreds of railway crossings in Maharashtra that need to be replaced with alternatives. The new projects are part of a plan to get rid of all the level crossings in phases. Earlier it was found that than 500 railway crossings in the state needed to be replaced.
State leaders say that removing level crossings will reduce the risk of accidents and waiting times for people driving. In cities like Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane and Nashik building modern overbridges will make traffic flow better and help the economy grow.
MahaRail has done a job of replacing old railway bridges with new and modern structures. The corporation has shown that it can build transportation projects quickly and efficiently. The approval of the 65 projects is also part of Maharashtras plan to improve its infrastructure, which includes making the railways better changing the gauge of the tracks making the freight corridors better and improving connectivity between different regions.
Experts in transportation are happy with the decision because railway level crossings often cause delays increase fuel consumption and are not safe. By replacing them with Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges Maharashtra can create a transportation network and reduce the pressure on the roads.
The state government says that work on the projects will start in phases with the first priority being the places with heavy traffic and high accident risks. Once the projects are finished they will benefit millions of people. Make Maharashtra one of the leading states in India in terms of infrastructure.
As the construction work goes on it seems more possible that Maharashtra can become free of railway level crossings. This will be a milestone in the states transportation development and will show that the state is committed to making things better, for its people. The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation or MahaRail is working hard to make this vision a reality.
