A sudden electricity disruption left several parts of Mumbai’s western suburbs in the dark on Monday evening, affecting thousands of residents. Areas including Andheri West, Bandra West, Khar West, Juhu, Goregaon West, Malad West, and Kandivali West experienced power cuts for nearly an hour, and internet services were reportedly disrupted in some localities.
Residents Describe the Chaos
Andheri West and Lokhandwala Hit Hard
Dhaval Shah, president of the Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens Association (LOCA), said, “The electricity went off around 7.20–7.30 pm, affecting the entire Lokhandwala area. Power has been restored in some buildings, and the supply company assured us that service would resume by 8.30 pm. However, the exact cause of the outage was not specified.”
Sudhakar Ahire, a resident of SVP Nagar, added, “The power supply company informed us that the disruption in western Mumbai was due to a technical issue. They began work on a war footing to restore electricity as quickly as possible.”
Other Areas Affected
Residents of Versova reported a similar situation. Hitendra Pachkale said, “Since 7.30 pm, there has been no electricity supply. Seven Bungalows has also been affected. We contacted the supply company, and they assured us that electricity would be restored by 8.30 pm.”
Goregaon residents experienced both power and internet disruptions, causing inconvenience for households and businesses alike.
Officials and Experts Respond
Varsha Gaikwad, reacting to the outage, said, “This is a rare occurrence in Mumbai. I hope a proper investigation is undertaken to determine the cause so it doesn’t happen again. I also hope alternate power sources have been provided for critical services like hospitals.”
What Caused the Outage?
Adani Electricity, which supplies power to the affected areas, explained that the disruption was caused by a rare technical failure that triggered network protection systems.
In a statement, the company said, “Restoration work began immediately. Around 50 per cent of supply was restored within 30 minutes and nearly 90 per cent within an hour. We regret the inconvenience caused and thank our consumers for their patience.”
On social media platform X, Adani Electricity wrote, “There is currently a power outage in the western parts of Mumbai due to a tripping issue. Our team is actively working to resolve the problem and restore the power supply as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and support during this time.”

By 8.30 pm, most affected areas reported that power supply had been largely restored, though residents expressed concern over the disruption.
City experts noted that while Mumbai rarely faces widespread outages, such incidents highlight the importance of regular maintenance and backup systems to ensure essential services, including hospitals and emergency networks, remain unaffected during technical failures.
