The people in charge at Central Railway said that the signal problem happened around 7:20 am. This was between the Kurla and Thane sections. This is one of the parts of the train system.
Because of the problem they had to control the trains by hand. This meant that trains did not come often as they should. The Central Railway services were also very slow on both the down lines of Central Railway. The people, at Central Railway had to do a lot of work to fix the problem at Central Railway.
Some local trains just stopped moving for a long time between stations. Other local trains were stopped in the middle of the route. This meant that passengers on these trains had to get off and find another way to get where they were going. There were a lot of announcements at the stations. They did not really say much. This made a lot of commuters very confused, about how the local trains were going to be and if they would even be able to get on a local train.
The problem was really bad at stations like Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane and Kalyan. These stations were very crowded. People had to wait for a time to get on local trains. They had to wait for thirty to forty five minutes. Many local trains were running late. Some local trains were even running than one hour late. People who go to offices were worried that they would be late for work. Students who go to school and college had to wait in lines with many other people. Local trains were a problem, for everyone.
Railway officials said the problem with the signals was because of an issue, with the system that controls the signals and the tracks. This system is very important because it makes sure the trains are moving safely. When the problem happened the people who fix things were sent to the part of the track where the issue was. They had to figure out what was wrong and fix it.. It took a long time to fix the Railway signals because the system is very complicated and there are a lot of safety rules to follow when working on the Railway system.
When something went wrong Central Railway said that long-distance trains that go through the area would also be late. They stopped some trains at the signals on the outside so that too many trains would not be in the same place at the same time, which made Central Railway trains even later for people who were going to places, outside the city area of Central Railway.
They had to do something to manage the situation. So they sent staff to the important stations. The job of the staff was to regulate the crowds and help the passengers. They also put railway police and Government Railway Police personnel at the stations. The railway police and Government Railway Police personnel were there to make sure everyone was safe because many people were traveling. With all these people helping some commuters got really upset. The commuters were arguing with the railway staff because they were not getting information about the railway services. The railway staff and commuters were arguing about the lack of information, from the railway.
Many people decided to take ways to get around like buses, the metro and taxi apps. This caused a lot of traffic on roads, like the Eastern Express Highway and LBS Road. The buses that run on the routes as the affected ones had a lot more people on them than they usually do. The BEST buses were really crowded.
By morning the railway officials said that they had started to fix the signaling systems a little bit and trains were running more often. The railway officials were trying to make sure everything was safe for people on the trains so they were doing a lot of safety checks.
