A big fire started in the Andheri MIDC area of Mumbai on Tuesday morning. This was very scary, for the people who work and live there. The fire department and city workers had to do a lot of work to deal with the fire. You could see a lot of smoke from very far away. The fire was burning an unit in a very busy area where a lot of things are made in the western part of Mumbai.
The people in charge of the Mumbai Fire Brigade said that the fire started at about 5:40 am. This was after they got a lot of emergency calls from people who lived nearby. These people saw flames and a lot of smoke coming out of a factory shed. The fire trucks were sent to the spot away.. The fire had already spread very quickly. This was because there were a lot of things, inside the factory that could catch fire easily. The Mumbai Fire Brigade people said that the fire spread rapidly because of these things. The Mumbai Fire Brigade had to act to put out the fire.
The fire people said this was a fire. They called it a “Level-III fire”. This means it was a big fire that needed a lot of people and equipment to put out. They sent a lot of fire trucks, big water tankers, a special ladder truck and ambulances to help. The firefighters worked for a time to put out the fire. They had to deal with hot temperatures they could not see very well and the buildings might fall down at any time. The firefighters were, in a situation. They were fighting the fire for hours. No one has died far which is a good thing.. Some people did get hurt. At five workers and two firefighters breathed in a lot of smoke and got minor injuries. They had to go to the hospital to get treated. The people who got hurt are doing okay now. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said they had doctors and nurses ready to help at all times when this was happening.
Traffic in the Andheri East region was really bad because the police blocked the roads that go to the MIDC area. They did this so that emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks could move around easily. People who were going to work had to wait for a long time during the morning rush hours. Some of the bus routes were changed so that they would not get stuck in the traffic. The Mumbai Police told people to stay from the Andheri East region until everything was okay again. The Mumbai Police wanted people to be safe so they asked people to avoid the area until the situation with the traffic in the Andheri East region was fully, under control.
People who live near the estate are having a hard time breathing because of the thick smoke. The people in charge of the city are telling everyone in the areas to keep their windows closed and not go outside unless they really have to. The industrial estate is causing a lot of problems. Environmental experts are worried about the air being toxic things being released into the air especially if the fire at the industrial estate involved bad chemicals.
