A sad thing happened on the road in Mumbais Andheri West. Four BEST buses were involved in an accident on Thursday. This accident killed a bus conductor. It made people worry about how safe the roadsre in Mumbai and how the traffic is managed.
The accident happened near Amboli Naka on SV Road. It was during the time in the afternoon when a lot of people are on the road. A big tree branch fell on the road. This slowed down the traffic. Many vehicles were stopped because of this. Three BEST buses had stopped because of the traffic jam. Then a fourth bus, which was a PMI electric bus going from Andheri West to Versova crashed into the buses from behind.
This crash caused all four buses to collide with each other. The people on the buses and those walking on the road were very scared. They heard noises and saw a lot of confusion after the accident.
The conductor who died was Shekhar Rawate. He was 52 years old. Worked for the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking. When the accident happened Rawate had gotten out of one of the buses to see what was happening with the traffic. He got trapped between two buses when the electric bus crashed into them.
People there helped get the injured conductor out before the ambulance arrived. Rawate was badly hurt and they took him to Cooper Hospital in Andheri.. When he got to the hospital the doctors said he was dead.
The police, traffic officials and BEST authorities quickly went to the accident site. They started rescue work. Cleared the road. They removed the damaged buses from the road. Cleared the tree branch that had caused the traffic problem.
This accident caused a lot of traffic problems in Andheri West for hours. Vehicles on SV Road, Amboli and nearby areas were stuck for a time. The authorities worked to make the traffic normal again. Some BEST bus routes were changed for a while during this time.
The Mumbai Police are investigating this accident. They want to know if the crash happened because of a problem with the bus if the brakes failed or if the driver made a mistake. They are talking to the bus drivers, conductors, passengers and people who saw the accident.
This accident has again raised concerns about safety on Mumbais transport. There have been big accidents involving BEST buses in the past including some where people died. This makes people question how well the buses are maintained, how well the drivers are trained and how prepared they are for emergencies.
Experts who know about transport say that the roads in Mumbai are getting more crowded. This along with traffic problems makes it harder to run public transport. Some experts think there should be checks on electric bus fleets especially since Mumbai is trying to make its public transport more environmentally friendly.
The senior officials of BEST said they are sorry for what happened to Shekhar Rawates family. They promised to help his family. They also said they will do a check of the buses involved in the accident to find out what exactly happened.
This sad incident has made commuters and transport workers very sad. It has again shown how important it is to improve road safety in Mumbai. The BEST buses are a part of Mumbais public transport network. This accident has made people think about how safe the BEST busesre. The city needs to do something to make the roads safer for everyone. The accident involving the four buses is a reminder that road safety is a big issue, in Mumbai.
