MUMBAI, August 26 2026: A 22-year-old delivery man was arrested by Byculla Police for throwing eggs at a Ganpati arrival procession in the Mazgaon area of Mumbai. The police say the man did this because the smoke from firecrackers made him angry. The incident happened on Sunday night. Caused a lot of tension because hundreds of devotees wanted the person responsible to be caught right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man has been named as Danish Sher Khan. He works as an online egg supplier. The police said Danish Sher Khan had gone into a building on Rambhau Bhogle Marg to drop off an egg order when the Ganpati procession came by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firecracker Smoke Allegedly Triggered Anger<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trouble started around 9:30 p.m. On August 23. At that time the idol of the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganpati Mandal was moving through the streets for its arrival procession. People in the procession were setting off firecrackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police said the smoke from the firecrackers likely made Danish Sher Khans eyes sting and burn. Investigators think Danish Sher Khan got angry and went into a building before throwing eggs at the procession. One of the eggs reportedly hit the Ganpati idol, which made the devotees very upset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a deal because the religious procession had a huge crowd. There were 200 people there and they all got angry after the egg-throwing incident happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crowd Gathers Outside Building<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the eggs were thrown, members of the Ganpati mandal stood outside the building where the eggs came from. People started shouting slogans and demanding that the police arrest the person responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police had to send officers to the area to keep things calm. Senior officers went to the spot to talk to the people in the procession so the situation would not get worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Meena told the crowd that the police would take legal action. The people finally went home after the police promised that an investigation was happening and that the person would be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five Police Teams Formed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Byculla Police first filed a case against a person and started looking into what happened. Because this was such a matter the police made five teams to find the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police looked at CCTV footage and other evidence from the area. The police eventually traced the act to Danish Sher Khan. Arrested him about 36 hours after the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police said they arrested Danish Sher Khan after following all the legal steps and rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charges Under BNS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An FIR was filed at Byculla Police Station under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These laws are about acts that hurt feelings and things that can mess with peace between communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation is still going on. The court will decide on the allegations against the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the Incident Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ganeshotsav celebrations in Mumbai always have processions, loud music, fireworks and many people. These events need planning, between the organizers the people living nearby and the police to make sure small fights do not turn into big problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case the police were able to find and arrest the man fast which helped calm the tension. This event shows why it is so important to stay calm during religious festivals even if someone gets annoyed or upset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
