A 37-year-old Merchant Navy seafarer was critically injured after his high-speed sports bike crashed into a cab on Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai during the early hours of Thursday morning. The incident occurred near Moraj Circle in Sanpada at approximately 3:20 AM and once again raised concerns over illegal street racing and reckless speeding on one of Navi Mumbai\u2019s busiest arterial roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police officials, the biker, identified as Ali Raja Zabir Kalfe, was allegedly racing with a group of fellow sports bike riders on Palm Beach Road when the accident took place. Authorities stated that the rider lost control of the motorcycle at high speed and rammed into a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire cab that was taking a turn at the Moraj Circle junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both the sports motorcycle and the cab badly mangled. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash that drew attention from nearby residents and motorists. Emergency responders and local police teams rushed to the scene shortly after the accident was reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cab driver, identified as Deepak Singh, reportedly suffered only minor bruises despite the intensity of the crash. Police said Singh was returning home to Palghar after dropping a passenger in Nerul and was heading toward a nearby CNG station when the speeding motorcycle collided with his vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The injured biker was immediately shifted to Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital in Nerul, where he remains under medical supervision. Doctors informed authorities that although he suffered serious injuries, his condition is currently stable. Investigators noted that the rider survived the high-impact crash largely because he was wearing a high-quality protective helmet at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanpada Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the biker under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The charges reportedly include reckless and negligent driving that endangered public safety as well as causing damage to public and private property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior police officials stated that Palm Beach Road has become a hotspot for illegal late-night bike racing due to its long open stretches and comparatively lighter traffic during early morning hours. Traffic signals on certain sections are often inactive at night, making the road attractive for high-speed riding enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palm Beach Road, which connects Vashi to Belapur through Sanpada and Nerul, has witnessed multiple fatal accidents in recent years and is often referred to locally as a \u201ckiller road\u201d because of recurring overspeeding incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police officials said special surveillance and increased late-night patrolling may now be introduced to curb dangerous racing activities. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from nearby junctions to determine whether other bikers involved in the alleged race can be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accident has once again sparked debate about road safety enforcement in Mumbai Metropolitan Region areas, particularly concerning superbike riders and illegal street racing culture. Citizens have urged authorities to impose stricter monitoring and speed-control measures on Palm Beach Road before more lives are lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
