The BMC has started repairing various major arterial and internal roads in South Mumbai, including stretches that see high vehicle density throughout the day. Officials said resurfacing and repair of potholes and strengthening of road layers are being done in phases to avoid largescale disruption. However, traffic diversions as a temporary measure have been implemented to ensure that work gets safely and efficiently executed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traffic diversions have been made in consultation with the traffic police to regulate movement of vehicles through the affected stretches. One side of the road has been closed to traffic in certain locations, where repairs are being carried out, diverting traffic to parallel routes. In places, lane restrictions have been imposed, slowing down the traffic flow, especially during morning and evening peak hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest diversions, especially around commercial hubs, office zones, and residential clusters, have lengthened the road time for commuters across South Mumbai. Taxis, private vehicles, and buses have borne the brunt of this diversion. The extended travel time has forced several commuters to either advance or delay their journey schedules and, in turn, take other routes. The traffic police advised motorists to abide by the diversion signage, avoid affected routes where possible, and be cooperative with personnel on the ground. Civic officials said that the repair work was being closely monitored to see that it gets completed on time. Engineers are doing regular inspections to maintain quality standards and avoid delays in the work. BMC sources said that after the current phase of repairs is completed, normal traffic movement will be restored in a phased manner and barricades will be removed in phases. The infrastructural upgradation of South Mumbai is in process, and the authorities are in need of public patience and cooperation. Authorities claimed that temporary traffic diversions will cause short-term inconvenience, but improved road conditions would lead to safer, smoother, and more efficient travel in the long run.
