A rare cultural extravaganza is in the offing in Mumbai with the acclaimed Tulu\u2011language theatrical production Chhatrapati\u202fShivaji all set to debut in Maharashtra this month. Helmed by Vijayakumar Kodiallbail and presented by the acclaimed theatre troupe Kalasangama, the play narrates the saga of the legendary Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, through the Tulu language. Having won accolades throughout Karnataka and the coastal regions, this will be the first time the play will be staged in Mumbai and will reach out to the state’s Tulu\u2011speaking diaspora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inaugural show is slated on 20 November 2025 at the Kurla Bunts Sangha auditorium and the troupe intends to hold ten more such performances across Thane, Mira Road, Pune, Vashi, Nalasopara, Chembur, and elsewhere till 30 November. Kodiallbail said that the drama is an adaptation of Shivaji Maharaj’s life and works by Shashiraj Kavoor – a piece of in-depth research translated into Tulu while ensuring the presentation retains historical accuracy. He adds that the play brings in the best of theatre with cinematic feel and the audiences will go through a mosaic of the valour, leadership, and administrative acumen of Shivaji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cast comprises 32 members, including actors, technicians, and support staff, who will leave Mangaluru for Maharashtra, where the first show is scheduled. The play, which runs for about 150 minutes, covers significant episodes in the life of Shivaji Maharaj, including his emergence as a warrior, the establishment of the Maratha kingdom, and his plans to safeguard his people from their enemies. The music by Manikanth Kadri and AK Vijaya Kokila adds a layered sound dimension to the historical narration and dramatization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
